Recently, “China Travel” has gone viral on the Internet. With China’s growing global influence, an increasing number of international visitors are eager to explore the country’s rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes that have evolved over millennia.WASHZ is honoured to welcome 10 international scholars in the upcoming semester. Over the next two years, they will study and live alongside local pupils, immersing themselves in modern Chinese culture as they work towards their university aspirations.
The 10 scholars who have joined WASHZ have been carefully selected by the British educational charity “Engage with China.” They stand out from all candidates for their exceptional academic achievements, resilience, ambition, and profound appreciation for Chinese culture, representing the UK’s young generation as exemplary ambassadors.
In 2023, Mr. William Vanbergen, Chairman of the Global Committee of WA Schools, met Ms. H-J Colston-Inge, Director of Engage with China, at a fundraiser. They exchanged views on cultural exchange and agreed that the younger generation should take on the responsibility of enhancing mutual recognition and friendship between China and the UK.
Hence, a visionary collaboration began to form. Within just two months, Ms. Ling Sun, Chief Consultant of WA Schools, and Ms. H-J Colston-Inge formally signed a cooperation agreement at the Global Service Trade Summit of the China International Fair for Trade in Services in Beijing, officially launching the “EwC Scholarship Programme.”
This year marks the second installment of the scholarship programme, yet it is an ‘ice-breaking’ moment for WASHZ. Ms. H-J Colston-Inge visits the school with the scholars. Her expertise ensures the scholars’ smooth integration into the community.
The scholars’ presence introduces a global perspective and diverse viewpoints to their Chinese peers, while at the same time offering a reciprocal opportunity for Chinese pupils to showcase their talents.Furthermore, the exchange fosters mutual understanding and lasting friendships between the younger generations of China and the UK.
In recent years, there has been a significant escalation in the emphasis on scientific and technological innovation at the national level. Recognized as the catalyst for driving innovation, education has emerged as a paramount focus for societal advancement.
To revitalise the country through science and education and strengthening the country with talented individuals, in November 2023, the Xiaoshan District Committee and the district government held a conference for high-quality education development across the district, where the “Shangxue Xiaoshan” brand was first introduced.Additionally, the 2024 Government Work Report highlighted the general policy of optimising educational supply to infuse momentum into social development by establishing a high-quality education system.
As a representative of high-end private schools in Xiaoshan, WASHZ upholds the “Shangxue” concept, focusing on academic excellence while shaping its brand image. With the mission of “Every Child Can Excel,” it nurtures innovative talents with diverse capabilities, contributing to WASHZ’s diverse and inclusive campus culture.Regarding university application, 92% of the WASHZ 2024 graduates have been admitted to Top 50 universities globally, with a cumulative scholarship offer amounting to nearly 3 million.
In the recent 2024 summer A-Level and IGCSE examinations, WASHZ has also achieved remarkbly, with respectively 50% and 42% of the exam entries receiving high-scoring A*-A results
On the journey to excellence, WASHZ never confines its vision to examination scores. The true essence of education lies in respecting individual talents and guiding pupils to find their own unique strengths.During the IGCSE phase, WASHZ offers over 20 courses, including arts, sports, and minor languages as electives; nearly 20 courses are also available for pupils to choose from during the A-Level phase. Our diverse curriculum provides students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of interests and truly discover themselves, fostering an inclusive and comprehensive environment at WASHZ.
The arrival of international scholars will help WASHZ further develop a comprehensive and well-rounded education system. Concurrently, the school extends a warm invitation to exceptional domestic students to join its academic community.
The “Academic Excellence Scholarship” is an incentive for eligible pupils across society. Candidates endorsed by the school’s scholarship committee may receive a waiver of tuition fees up to 100% including extended educational costs, potentially totaling nearly one million over three years.
