Creativity largely stems from observation and thinking. An insignificant ‘bike story’ might be easily neglected by others, but it sparked Kang’s curiosity about the human brain, signaling the commencement of this Class of 2024 graduate’s enthusiasm in neuroscience.

With an early acceptance from the Imperial College London, Kang has mitigated any uncertainties regarding his academic trajectory, thus affording him the opportunity to enjoy what is perhaps the most worry-free time of his life. The fact that this century-old prestigious school has risen to the second place in the QS World University Rankings has imbued this period with unexpected joy.

This is a mutual selection between a student and his dream school. Kang’s aspirations align with the profound academic vigor of ICL in the fields of biological and medical sciences, while the institution appreciates his relentless ingenuity and his indomitable spirit in tackling uncharted academic frontiers.

Unraveling the Mysteries of the Brain

Speaking of why he is fond of biology and plans to major in neuroscience, in addition to the bike story, Kang attributes it to his father’s influence.

“My father always tells me to help others and try to make the world a better place. I believe that studying biology and neuroscience can enable me to do this better.” In addition, he also harbours the ambition to tackle humanity’s ultimate question, “Neuroscience is a discipline that seeks the secrets of the brain; I want to know who we really are.”

Mr. Bellamy, the head of the upper school science faculty at WASHZ, believes that The two key elements of a great scientist are curiosity about the world around you and a careful attention to detail. Kang possesses both of these.

“Kang is a student with enormous potential. He has a thirst for learning new things that shows through his reading, his experiment proposals, and his vision for his future.”

In the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), he conducted an experimental study across the entire school on the topic of “How the Brain Perceives Time,” thereby garnering invaluable primary research experience. The A* grade serves as a testament to his diligent efforts.

Family influence has also cultivated Kang’s pragmatic qualities. He discloses an aspiration to delve into the interdisciplinary field between neuroscience and engineering after entering ICL. He believes that research that can put theory into practice can more directly help those in need.

“My mother always encourages me to participate in competitions, which makes me feel that it is also fun to challenges myself sometimes.” Kang’s positive view of competition gives him an innate advantage in a rapidly changing world.

Regarding his prospective trajectory, Kang exhibits no haste in confining himself to a predetermined destination.”An engineer? A professor? A neurosurgeon? I might have a lot of choices. I still don’t know.” He is keen on new things, and trying things that no one has ever touched is one of the sources of his happiness. No pain no gain is also his life motto.

Although Kang is perceived by others as sufficiently exemplary, he maintains the capacity for profound self-reflection, acknowledging his own imperfections with remarkable candor. Furthermore, he demonstrates a commendable commitment to addressing these areas of deficiency with unwavering dedication and effort.

This metropolis, with its harmonious fusion of the traditional and the contemporary, is poised to offer Kang the balance between life and academic pursuit, in alignment with his affection for music and the humanities too.No matter which trajectory Kang ultimately decides to pursue, his creativity and valor will be alchemized into an inner beacon, illuminating the way to claim the star of his aspirations in the vast expanse of his ambitions.
