With 13 acceptance letters, Candy Zhu, a graduate of the WASHZ Class of 2024, has achieved the extraordinary title of “Offer Collector” for this year.Candy faces many options, from the UK, Canada, Hong Kong, to Australia. Making a decision has become a “happy dilemma.”

Fortunately, her longing for the UK narrowed down her choices. This September, the independent and thoughtful dreamer will be joining the University of Manchester.

For most people, university applications involve the whole family’s collective efforts, as they significantly impact one’s future path. However, Candy took a different route, completing almost the entire application process independently.

Her parents gave Candy immense trust and freedom, allowing her to research and make decisions regarding school selection and application progress on her own.This independence not only honed her decision-making skills but also helped her clarify her interests and goals during the application process. The excellent results she achieved proved she was worthy of her parents’ trust.

Among the numerous offers, Candy ultimately chose to major in Economics and Finance at the University of Manchester.This choice was not made lightly. She previously interned at a private equity firm, where she had the opportunity to observe the secondary and futures markets closely. Using simulation software to trade, she developed a deep understanding and passion for economics.

In the WASHZ EPQ program, she also focused on economics and mathematics, earning an outstanding ‘A’ grade, thus marking the culmination of her academic exploration.

The application season is a trial that all graduates must go through, and it was especially so for Candy, who applied to many schools.During this process, Ms. Stacey, the university counselor at WASHZ, played a crucial role. With her extensive experience and understanding of the admission requirements across various countries and regions, Ms. Stacey assisted Candy in conducting thorough research and self-exploration. She meticulously adjusted the focus and emphasis of each application essay, laying a solid foundation for the 13 offers.

Of course, Candy’s application journey was not without its challenges. Like all applicants, she experienced rejection. However, her positive and optimistic attitude helped her navigate through these difficulties.

Now, Candy is enjoying her last summer vacation before university. She is not in a hurry to plan her university life or distant future. In this ever-changing era, she prefers to keep an open and flexible mindset. As for what lies ahead, she’ll leave that to her future self.The calmness, optimism, and confidence Candy displayed during the application process are the very qualities that define her. The story behind the 13 offers is one of independence, exploration, and growth. This is the life Candy loves, and the energy she draws from it will support her as she steps onto a broader stage in life.
