Switching major during the college application process is a bold move, particularly when it involves transitioning between disciplines as apparently distinct as architecture and psychology.<\/p>\n

Yet, for Catherine Fang, her inner determination made the transition from architecture to psychology successful.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n<\/section>\n

Catherine had early on designated architecture as her top preference, driven by a lifelong love for the arts and a zeal for innovation.<\/p>\n

Yet, upon confronting the realities of the field, Catherine promptly recognized that the vocation of an architectural designer did not align with the vision of her own future.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Stick to dreams\u00a0<\/strong>o<\/strong>r\u00a0<\/strong>change direction?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/section>\n

This question marked Catherine’s most perplexing period during the application process. However, she was undeniably fortunate, as her extensive exploration had provided her with\u00a0 plenty of choices.<\/p>\n

Bolstered by her\u00a0personal experiences, the support of her family, and the guidance of her teachers<\/strong> at WASHZ, Catherine resolved to switch her focus to psychology and successfully obtained several admission offers, among which was one from University College London (UCL).<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Catherine always says she was born with a free spirit, doing whatever comes to mind and learning whatever she likes. As a result, she has accumulated many hobbies since childhood. At WASHZ, these interests have been further developed.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Catherine attributes the prominence of psychology in her interests to her predilection for activities that\u00a0involve ‘people’.<\/p>\n

A volunteer experience at a psychiatric clinic provided Catherine with a stark realization of the gravity of psychological issues, thereby reinforcing her determination to further her studies in the field of psychology.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Catherine has been recognized by her English Literature teacher, Ms. Emily, as possessing an innate and profound capacity for empathy. This quality is not confined to her academic pursuits in literature but is likewise reflected in her interactions and experiences within the broader context of life.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Besides extracurricular engagements, Catherine opted to pursue psychology in her A-level examinations. Despite not having the intention to advance further at that time, the two-year study has endowed her with a specialized comprehension of the discipline.<\/p>\n

Catherine expresses profound gratitude for the support she received from her university counsellor, Ms. Stacey, particularly during the critical phase of majoring change in her application process.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Catherine’s successful management of her concerns and her swift passage through a period of uncertainty can be largely attributed to the comprehension and support provided by her mother.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
Upon becoming aware that Catherine was considering forsaking architecture for psychology, her mother refrained from imposing any pressure upon her and instead provided unwavering support.<\/p>\n

She not only encouraged Catherine to make choices that align with her true self but also reached out to her network within the respective industries to assist her daughter in evaluating the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the future prospects, of both areas of study.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Allowing her daughter to hold the steering wheel while she takes on the role of the navigator represents the utmost respect that Catherine’s mother has extended to her.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

It is commonly stated that the optimal moment to plant a tree was a decade ago, with the subsequent best moment being the present.<\/p>\n

A correct decision is never belated; what is truly feared is indecision and lack of action due to worry. In the discernment between aspirations and practicality, Catherine’s capacity for self-awareness is, indeed, a rare and profound insight.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

With her romantic and genuine nature, Catherine is destined to live a life that is as captivating as a story.
