About Us Explore the School
Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou (WASHZ) draws on an exceptional heritage of educational excellence, bringing together the best of British and Chinese education. As a landmark in Xiaoshan district and a model of modern educational institutions in the 21st century, the design of our Hangzhou campus takes some of the traditional elements of schools overseas for reference and combines these with features from the historical and cultural background of Xiaoshan district.

Situated in beautiful Daicun town, Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou, Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou is situated near to picturesque Fairy Lake with a backdrop of beautiful green hills. The school boasts a superb natural environment with a pure freshwater lake in the centre of the school. With the school’s delightful natural surroundings and beautiful campus scenery, our pupils can enjoy living and studying healthily and happily in peace and tranquility.

The school is equipped with specialist classrooms for many different subjects, as well as state-of-the-art multimedia classrooms, advanced laboratories, spacious libraries, an outstanding theatre, a spectacular music and art centre as well as a sports stadium. The school libraries, separately set up for primary and secondary school students, are connected to the canteens and will be the main venues for students’ independent learning.

The music and arts centre, which includes a theatre and a blackbox theatre, is inside the landmark building right next to the school gate. This building overlooks the lake, with which it is in perfect harmony, and the materials used in construction also reflect ancient brick-making and ceramics techniques. In addition, there is a 25-metre swimming pool with 8 lanes, a double-deck stadium, basketball courts, tennis courts, a 400-meter track, a football field, dance studios, gymnasiums and other sports facilities.

Outdoor exploration of the natural world is one of the key educational features of Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou. The natural surroundings and the layout of the campus facilities create a perfect environment for outdoor sports. Fairy Lake lies to the south of the school, and Yunshi National Mountaineering Trail and Yunshi Volcano Park are also nearby. In addition to the traditional athletics track, the school will also lay out a track around the lake inside the campus, as well as a variety of sports facilities and recreational spaces.

In addition to having sufficient teaching facilities to cater to some 1,500 students, the school can accommodate up to 960 boarders in 14 boarding houses (10 boarding houses for the first phase of construction and 4 boarding houses for the second phase of construction). The boarding houses stand beside the lake, which not only gives them a beautiful view but also separates them from the teaching area of the school.

The boarding houses have been carefully designed with the needs of our pupils in mind. The bedrooms are spacious and bright and equipped with all necessary facilities, including private toilets and bathrooms. The boarding houses are independent of one another, each equipped with its own study area and common room, providing plenty of space for the pupils to socialise with each other in their spare time. Each house is like a small family community, facilitating happy interaction between the pupils and the housemaster or housemistress and their team of tutors and creating a warm home away from home for the boarders.

The Wycombe Abbey School Hangzhou kindergarten is located in the western part of the school, separated from the main campus so as to offer young children a quieter, gentler and safer learning environment. The façade walls of the kindergarten are made of brightly colored aluminum, matching the colorful and attractive interior, all of which has been designed to inspire the children’s love of learning and their natural curiosity.

The libraries will be the main venues for students' independent learning.
